Forest Kindergarten

The forest kindergarden was established in 2011 as the first of its kind in Slovakia. It came into being thanks to the tradition of regular and non-regular activities for pre-school children which are part of the local social life since the number of youngest inhabitants started to grow.

The project was initiated by Sandra Uebel who has moved to Zajezova from Potsdam, Germany, where she had worked in a forest kindergarden for several years. She is assisted by volunteers from different countries who come to Zajezova to serve an EVS (European Voluntary Service) and of course also by the children’s parents. As the assistants are from several countries (Germany, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Poland, Spain), the children have the opportunity to discover different cultures and languages.

At the moment, the forest kindergarden project is paused due to a „generational gap“ that occurred after 5 children enrolled in primary school and there are not enough pre-school children. However, it is most likely that the project will start again as there are 10 children under 3 years of age. In the meantime, the mothers of those children meet up several times per month to exchange experiences and help each other.
