The Eco-community Sekier is a traditional farm house on a meadow above Zajezova, bought in 1994 by the NGO Community for Life in Harmony (PHŽ). It is looking for an alternative to a meaningless consumerist lifestyle, inspired by the modest and self-sufficient life of our ancestors, but also by modern trends like permaculture, natural building and the eco-village movement.
Pastiereň is a small traditional log cabin which in 1998-1999 was reconstructed by the local civic association PHZ. Within this reconstruction the cabin was moved from its original location in the neigboring village Vígľašská Huta-Kalinka to the Sekier meadow above Zajezova. The work was done the traditional way without using any power tools, keeping the original and traditionally used materials.

Zaježová is (not-only) nationwide know for its concentration strawbale buildings. First small strawbale house in Slovakia (as far as we know) was built here in 2002. Also first legaly fully approved strawbale houses in Slovakia are standing here. Many people are visiting this place to find inspiration and information about natural building. Local NGO has created a movie "Strawbale House" about group of international volunteers building a house in one month. Excursions and workshops are organized here several times a year. But straw was used here also in the past - as roof cover.
Educational Centre in Zaježová serves as a base for workshops and seminars since early 1990s. The building was continuosly renovated but biggest changes had happen when local NGO Pospolitosť pre harmonický život invited for cooperation big nation-wide operating NGO Živica. They managed to get financial resources from different donors (Norway grants, UNDP, Swiss grants, EU crossborder cooperation with Hungary etc.). Thanks to this they could make rooms for accommodation and workshops, toilets, showers, new roof-cover, building insulation etc.
This page was created and is maintained thanks to support from local NGOs and part of local inhabitants who belong to Zaježka Community. Zaježka Community is informal group of local active people, who cooperate and participate on social life in Zaježová.
